Terrazzo is a unique and versatile flooring material. It is made from marble and natural stone chips mixed in epoxy or concrete to form a durable flooring surface. Terrazzo flooring has a beautiful design that looks even more stunning when polished. At Absolute Floor Polishing, we have worked on several terrazzo flooring projects over the last 10 years and have vast experience with it.
Can You Polish Terrazzo?
Terrazzo is one of the oldest flooring styles that’s still in use today. It is a highly resilient material, which is why most people don’t realize it needs some love and care to shine. Terrazzo can be polished into a mirror-like finish, and the process is fairly straightforward. Here’s a look at what we do:
- We clean the surface with a pH-neutral cleaner to remove all debris. It allows us to check the floor for any imperfections like lipping, cracks, dents, etc.
- The next step is to remove all lipping and unevenness from the surface with a grinder. We use wet grinding to achieve the best results.
- Once the floor is level and even, we start polishing it. Our technicians will use progressively finer grits during the polishing process until we achieve the required level of shine. We can make your floor matte, half-glossy, or add mirror-like shine to the surface.
Terrazzo is porous like other natural stone and concrete surfaces. Porous surfaces need to be sealed to ensure dirt and debris don’t settle into the material. We use tried and tested sealants to finish the polishing process and ensure the floor’s shine lasts for a long time.
